About Dr. Martha Merchant

For 17+ years, Dr. Martha Merchant—aka doc Martha—has worked with kids, teens, families, and communities impacted by trauma.

A biracial Korean/white, non-binary abolitionist, doc Martha is passionate about healing, justice, and flipping the script on systems of oppression.

They work alongside folks often pushed to the margins—children, people of color, poly families, LGBTQ communities—and are just as committed to supporting interns, postdocs, and educators doing the deep work in undervalued roles.

Credentials? Yep—doc Martha earned an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology. They moved to San Francisco to train with Dr. Joyce Dorado, co-founder of UCSF’s HEARTS program, and now consult with schools across the U.S. and Europe to build trauma-informed, racially just learning environments.
